When I read of things such as the seven-year imprisonment and torture of Lakhdar Boumediene, I can only think of what Nazi wannabes we have among us. Of course, comparisons with the Nazis are overused and abused, and people will rightly point to the magnitude of Nazi crimes. However, the same thuggish disregard for morality and humanity is there. All that remains for people not blinded by ideology or political identity is to figure out which circle of Hell a modern Dante would consign those miscreants.
What’s sad is that I know that some good, decent, sincere people support the Bushes and Cheneys and Gitmos. I guess that at some level, they must be so afraid … of terrorism, of Communism, of whatever else the right wing targets. Fear is the mind-killer.
